مکسل کورنه ابتدا در نیمه نخست لیون را به گل رساند. اکامبی از میانه زمین فرار کرد که تکل گارسیا او را متوقف کرد اما توپ مقابل کورنه قرار گرفت و او از جلو آمدن ادرسون نهایت استفاده را برد و با ضربه ای بغل پا و دقیق، لیون را جلو انداخت.
در دقیقه هفتاد، پاس ریاض محرز در محوطه جریمه لیون به استرلینگ رسید و او بعد از یک سر توپ، دی بروین را صاحب توپ کرد و هافبک منچسترسیتی با ضربه ای بغل پا کار را به تساوی کشاند.
اما این پایان کار نبود و لیون در ادامه با هنرنمایی موسی دمبله دو بار دیگر به گل رسید تا شاگردان پپ گواردیولا حذف شده بزرگ لیگ قهرمانان لقب بگیرند.
